MEWC 2024 Event Series: The Active Cell
The Microsoft Excel World Championship (MEWC) 2024 event in Las Vegas consisted of an exciting series of workshops and conferences, titled “The Active Cell”. This session featured world-class speakers, including Financial Modeling World Cup (FMWC) founder Andrew Grigolyunovich, as well as Andrew Ngai, the reigning MEWC champion for three consecutive years from 2018 to 2021 from Australia. The event was attended by participants from various countries, such as the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Germany, Poland, Singapore, Indonesia, and many more.
“The Active Cell” continued with the final qualifying round that determined the participants who would advance to the semi-finals and finals of the Microsoft Excel World Championship. The event started with the college category, both teams and individuals. Next, the semi-final round for the professional category was attended by 64 participants, and the best 16 participants were selected to go to the final round. The final eight participants who had passed the previous selection, including the defending champions, also joined this round.
This year, Indonesia made a mark through its representative, Herardi Cahya Nagara, who finished 23rd in the quarter-finals. Herardi was only 37 points away from 16th place, which is the threshold for advancing to the next round. This is a very special achievement, considering this is the first time Indonesia has sent a representative to the international MEWC competition.
“This is a great start for Indonesia in a world competition like this. Hopefully in the future there will be more young talents who can represent Indonesia,” said Herardi.
In the future, it is hoped that there will be closer collaboration between SOEs, the private sector, and the government in encouraging the development of technology talents, especially in the field of data analysis using Excel. This step is also strengthened by efforts to introduce Microsoft Excel as an esport branch that can inspire Indonesia's young generation.
See you at MEWC 2025!
