Commemorating 150 Years of UPU, PosIND Launches 150th Anniversary of the International Postal Union Stamp Series

Pos Sedunia

Bandung – October 9, Postal workers all over the world commemorate World Post Day. This date was chosen to coincide with the commemoration of the founding of the United Nations (UN) Universal Postal Union (UPU). The UPU was founded in Bern, Switzerland in 1874 and the determination of the commemoration of World Postal Day was made at the 1969 UPU Congress in Tokyo, Japan.

This year the UPU is exactly 150 years old. With the theme "150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations" or 150 years of empowering communities across countries. World Postal Day 2024 recognizes the UPU's long-term achievements and strengthens the organization's commitment to serving the community into the future.

The commemoration of World Postal Day is carried out to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in the daily lives of people and businesses, as well as contributing to the social and economic development of countries in the world.

In Indonesia, World Postal Day 2024 is commemorated through the Launch of the 150th Anniversary Stamp Series of the World Postal Union. The stamp with a value of ten thousand is printed in the form of Fullsheet, First Day Cover, Postcard and Maximum Card. The design of this series of stamps is adjusted to the poster commemorating World Post Day 2024.

Indonesia through Pos Indonesia joined the UPU on May 1, 1877. Pos Indonesia's joining the UPU allows Indonesia to become part of a broad and coordinated international postal network. This ensures that postal services in Indonesia can operate in accordance with international standards set by the UPU, including in terms of security, efficiency, and quality of service.

As a member of the UPU, Pos Indonesia can participate in various initiatives and programs aimed at improving postal services worldwide. For example, Pos Indonesia can access technology and best practices developed by other member countries, as well as contribute to the development of global postal policies.

As a member country, Pos Indonesia also actively participates in various international congresses and meetings with UPU member countries. In line with the spirit of the UPU translated into the mandate of the Law, Pos Indonesia together with the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia is committed to improving the quality of postal services and ensuring that everyone, wherever they are, can enjoy the benefits of a reliable and efficient postal network.
